Photonics and Microwaves Competitiveness Cluster in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

NewSkin's Kick-off Meeting

Posté le 11 juin 2020

On the 21st and 22nd of April 2020, the Kick-off Meeting of the NewSkin project was held online and led by the project coordinator, the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS). It was the opportunity for the partners to meet altogether for the first time since the launch of the project. The aims of the project and its different tasks were presented to the whole consortium. Thanks to this meeting, the first project activities are going to start successfully.

The NewSkin project
Key Enable Technologies (KET) are essential for any innovation of the next decades. Nano-enabled surfaces and membranes must be highlighted due to their huge potential to offer material solutions to address Sustainable Development Goals resulting in positive and sound impacts for the society and key industrial sectors. The NewSkin project aims to create an Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB), a new legal entity which will provide the European Innovation Ecosystem with the necessary technologies, resources and services to uptake a set of game changing, efficient and cost- effective innovative processes to manufacture nano-enabled industrial and consumer products as well as the necessary testing capabilities to demonstrate nano-enhanced goods features. This project is led by the ECCS and is composed of 36 partners coming from 12 different countries, among which ALPHA-RLH (France).

Kick-Off meeting
This virtual event organised by ECCS gathered 80 participants, each organisation had the opportunity to present its expertise and its role in the project. Each of the 9 Work Packages organising the project activities were presented and discussed internally. Despite restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic situation, the NewSkin partners could continue to work successfully on the implementation of the OITB aiming at accelerating industrial uptakes of advanced surface nanotechnologies.

NewSkin’s next step
As a partner of the NewSkin Project, the ALPHA-RLH cluster will take the lead for the creation of an online platform allowing stakeholders involved in the development of nano-enable membranes and surfaces to interact with each other and to participate in the future OITB facilities. The platform is currently under development and will be ready by the end of 2020.
